Award-Winning Diamond Drilling and Core Drilling with Over 40 Years of Experience

Responsibility

Smart and
Responsible Core Drilling Operations

We combine uncompromising quality with a commitment to sustainable development. For us, quality means respecting client schedules, achieving core drilling project goals through intelligent solutions, anticipating site-specific risks, and maintaining consistent operational standards. We ensure our modern drilling equipment is always in top condition and that the core samples we produce are of the highest possible quality — supporting our clients’ precise decision-making.

As part of our intelligent core drilling model, we invest in efficient data collection and real-time monitoring in the field. This enables rapid response to any deviations and ensures a smooth customer experience. Our responsibility extends to minimizing environmental impacts in all our operations, because we believe that smart mineral exploration is the foundation for a sustainable future.

KATI’s versatile diamond drilling equipment supports a range of commonly used core and borehole sizes, including PQ, HQ, NQ and WL series. The table below shows the nominal core and borehole diameters for each equipment option. The appropriate drilling method and core size are selected based on the exploration target, geological conditions and project objectives.

Specialized Core Drilling and down-hole services

We offer specialized services to enhance your core drilling projects, including borehole injection by cementing or plugging to support environmental protection and further investigations. In addition, we provide advanced borehole deviation and steering services, enabling us to accurately direct core drilling to the desired underground target. These services are an essential part of our intelligent core drilling approach, ensuring precision, responsibility, and optimal results.

KAMU

Rock Chip Sampling

Our KAMU crawler-mounted equipment can penetrate up to 30 meters of overburden, including large boulders. This sampling method provides fast and reliable information about the till layers and bedrock. KAMU enables secure sampling from basal till and even bedrock, at depths of up to 40 meters. The method quickly delivers insight into the area's mineral potential, which can accelerate project timelines and reduce the need for more expensive core drilling.

Sonic Drilling

The Best Solution for Challenging Soil Investigations

Our sonic drilling service utilizes high-frequency vibration, enabling rapid and almost undisturbed core sampling — even in demanding ground conditions such as soft or rocky soils. The method is up to 3–5 times faster than traditional drilling techniques. Sonic drilling is also highly environmentally friendly, generating up to 70% less waste and requiring no water to operate. It is suitable for mineral exploration, geotechnical and environmental investigations, as well as the examination of mine tailings ponds.

Frequently Asked Questions about Core Drilling

Diamond core drilling is the most popular exploration method because it provides the most reliable results on soil composition and mineral deposits, even in challenging conditions. The method produces an intact, cylindrical rock sample—a core sample—that preserves its original geological structure. Without a high-quality rock sample, it is impossible to reliably assess the size and quality of a mineral deposit.

The primary advantage is the precision of the data provided and the ability to reach depths of over a thousand meters. Core drilling is also ideally suited for hard rock formations. It allows for accurate directional steering and measurement, ensuring the sample is retrieved from the exact desired location, which saves both time and costs in exploration projects.

The process begins with careful planning and the mobilization of the drilling rig to the site. During drilling, a diamond-encrusted bit grinds its way into the bedrock, and rock samples are collected in meter-long sections, accompanied by precise documentation. Finally, geologists analyze the samples, and the borehole is either sealed or prepared for further investigations.

Drilling requires a specialized drilling rig, a high-performance diamond-tipped drill bit, and a cooling system. A unique feature of KATI’s equipment is our environmentally friendly and ISO-certified closed-loop circulation system. This system allows the drilling water to be cleaned and recirculated, minimizing water consumption and preventing drilling sludge from spreading into the environment.
